Sports Betting – Investing in the Future

April 29th, 2010

The difference between sports betting and sports investing comes down to one thing and that is the technique involved.  Betting is just that, betting on a particular sporting event and hoping for the best.  Investing requires the use of an actual sports betting system that allows users to make money over time.  People who use proper sports betting systems are career investors and they know how to follow trends in sports victories.  With sports betting, the main factor involved is luck.  With sports investing, luck is taken out of the equation and replaced by statistical information and well-known trends.

With sports betting, everything is make or break.  Every decision has to return huge profits or the person making the bet has had a poor day.   Sports investing, however, is a day-to-day business, and some days are better than others.  Investors understand this truth and won’t be disappointed if a particular investment does not pan out as well as they would have liked.  This seeming callousness is important to maintaining a level head.  If investors allow themselves to overreact when the market goes bad, they will never survive.  The same is true for sports investors.  An investor must be disciplined enough to see an investment through until the very end and is not allowed to simply jump ship when something “seems” bad.

Sports investing requires a level of money management that sports bettors may not understand.  Every bet, no matter how wonderful the bet seems, is in essence a gamble, and the point of gambling is to make as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time.  This is one of the areas where sports betting and sports investing are at odds.  Sports investing takes NFL picks, NBA picks and MLB picks and uses them to create a formula for success over time, instead of focusing on huge, onetime profits that may never arrive.

Sports betting is a fun hobby to do on the weekends.  Sports investing is serious work and a serious business.  It is designed for the smart investor to benefit, but it is not a get rich quick scheme.  Anyone who comes into sports investing with that mentality will fail.  The ones who succeed will be the ones who have a professional sports betting system that allows them to consistently bring in profits based on statistics.
